ABN will invest €7.2m in decarbonising its Medina del Campo plant
ABN Pipe Systems will undertake a significant decarbonization project at its Medina del Campo plant, investing €7.2 million. The company has received €3.6 million from the PERTE for industrial decarbonization, granted by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, to carry out three projects aimed at improving energy efficiency and sustainability. This project, set to continue until 2026, aims to enhance the circularity of plastic products through recycling and waste valorization, thereby reducing the carbon footprint.
Three different projects to reduce footprint
The project is divided into three main initiatives. The first involves installing a recycling line to process plastic waste derived from automobile shredding, which will save 4,832 tons of CO2. This will also enable ABN to be self-sufficient in its production processes.
The second project focuses on research and development to increase the percentage of recycled material in its products, contributing to an additional reduction of 969 tons of CO2.
Finally, the third initiative involves implementing a new extrusion line to improve the production of small-diameter pipes, reducing energy consumption by 70% and saving 52 tons of CO2. This optimization will lead to significant reductions in energy, material consumption, and emissions.
n 2023, ABN generated €28 million in revenue and employed 106 people at its Medina del Campo plant, which covers an area of 96,701 square meters, with over 18,000 square meters dedicated to the manufacturing and storage of pipe components and systems.
