Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
ABN is committed to the 10 principles of the United Nations Global Compact by signing and adhering to the UN Global Compact and being active in the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
-
Gender equality
Ending all forms of discrimination against women and girls is not only a basic human right, but also crucial to accelerating sustainable development.
-
Clean water and sanitation
In order to ensure universal access to safe and affordable drinking water for all by 2030, adequate investments in infrastructure, provision of sanitation facilities and promotion of hygienic practices at all levels are needed.
-
Decent work
The Sustainable Development Goals aim to stimulate sustainable economic growth by raising productivity levels and technological innovation. Promoting policies that stimulate entrepreneurship and job creation is crucial to this end.
-
Industry and innovation
Investment in infrastructure and innovation are key drivers of economic growth and development. With more than half of the world's population living in cities, mass transport and renewable energy are becoming increasingly important, as are the growth of new industries and information and communications technologies.
-
Reducing inequalities
To slow this rise in disparities, strong policies that empower the bottom percentile of the income scale and promote economic inclusion for all, regardless of gender, race or ethnicity, are needed.
-
Responsible production and consumption
Efficient management of shared natural resources and the way in which toxic waste and pollutants are disposed of are vital to achieving this goal. It is also important to encourage industries, businesses and consumers to recycle and reduce waste, as well as to support developing countries to move towards sustainable consumption patterns by 2030.
